Question: Northern Rock savings accounts? Would you open one with them, even after everythings thats happend?

I’ve noticed they do a Fixed Rate Bond for a very compettive interest rate, i have never invested with them & wondered whether its safe to do so?
Or should I stick with my current provider whom i’ve been with many years or go with whats best out there??

Answer: There is absolutely no danger in investing in Northern Rock!

As it was there no danger in the first place, but the ridiculous media hype drove the public into a frenzy, and everyone overreacted!

As it was 90% of your money up to £30,000 was guaranteed by the government, but now 100% of all amounts is guaranteed so even if they did go under you would get all your money back.

This is one of the things that was so stupid about the public frenzy. Most people closed their accounts which were earning good rates of interest, and moved them into other accounts with lower rates of interest.

If you want to save with them, go ahead and do so.
