Savings Bonds Beneficiaries

Question: Checking on Savings Bonds?

I have some Series EE Savings Bonds that I am a named Beneficiary on. Does anyone know how I can go about looking them up, to see if they’ve been cashed or not? They were originally my grandmothers, and I know she had some replaced a long time ago, and I am not sure if these are the ones that were replaced or not.

Does anyone know of a site where I can check on the status of these bonds?

Thanks.

Us Savings Bond Advantages And Disadvantages

Question: What are the advantages and disadvantages of the following forms of investing:?

A.) Common Stocks
B.) Mutual Funds
C.) Life Insurance
D.) CD (Certificate of Deposit)
E.) Savings account or US Savings Bond

Answer: With the exception of life insurance, the common denominator with the others is different degrees of risk. E has the least risk, it has a safe return, its insured, and its liquid. CD’s are not so liquid and you have to pay a penalty (which is tax deductible) for early withdrawals. Common stocks carry the most risk. Life insurance isnt an investment. If you need insurance buy insurance. If you want an investment, invest in a security.

Savings Bonds Lost Stolen

Question: Are my parents allowed to keep my Savings Bonds?

I am 21 years old. My dad bought me Savings Bonds when I was little to use for college. They wont give it to me unless I sign a power of attorney. They are not trying to steal my money or anything like that–they just want to make sure that it is used for college. So LEGALLY am i allowed to just demand them. I would rather pay off some debt with it and start a savings for a car. 21 years old and not having a car is kinda hard. I’ve been riding the bus and bike all this time while living on my own and attending college. I am in the process of taking out loans for college. Please just answer if i am LEGALLY allowed to demand them? I do not want to take it to court ( no money to do so-plus they are my parents) … can I just file the Savings Bonds as “lost’ since my parents refuse to give them to me? Thanks.

Answer: If it will cause a fight, don’t bother demanding them. The link below contains instructions for replacing ‘lost, stolen, or destroyed Savings Bonds‘.
