Savings Bonds For Baby

savings bonds for baby
Question: is it appropriate to give second-hand (garage sale) gifts for a baby shower?

If the mom has a gift registry, do guests have to stick to it? Like if you find some stuff for her at a baby-type garage sale and decide on that instead, or if you have things lying around from when you had a baby, is this OK as a gift? Or is giving only new things appropriate? Some of those new baby things are expensive today. When I asked a friend of mom’s about it, I was told “yeah she only wants things from the registry, or if you want to give a savings bond instead that is ok.” But if you like garage sale-ing and find a good bargain on something, or you are really desperate to give some of your old baby things away, is this acceptable?

Answer: I think I would be a little embarrassed to give handy downs to a mother at her baby shower.I don’t see anything wrong with buying something nice from a sale & giving it to the mother before or after the shower just as something you found at a sale but I wouldn’t let it be the baby shower gift. The stuff on the mother’s registry is what I usually buy because I know it’s something she picked out & really wants.
