Us Savings Bonds Contact

Question: My Uncle has my Savings Bonds and I need them please help?
when I was born in 1985 my grandfather got me and my siblings Savings Bonds and when he died he left my uncle in charge of the Savings Bonds and my uncle doesn’t get along with any of us. I would like to know if they still exist or if he may have cashed them in or what happened to our bonds? I have attempted to try and contact my uncle and have gotten no response and I just want to find out what happened to my bonds?
Answer: Your best chance to recover these Savings Bonds is probably to file a claim for lost or stolen bonds with the U.S. treasury using the link provided below. They will be able to tell you if the bonds were redeemed or still exist, in which case they can issue you a check for the current value.
If the bonds were issued in your grandfather’s name, either as owner or co-owner, then it’s likely that your uncle has already redeemed the bonds, which he was entitled to do as executor of your grandfather’s estate. If, however, you were listed as the owner of the bonds, then your uncle had no right to cash the bonds, so you should be able to take him to court to recover their value.

Savings Bonds Interest After Maturity
Question: How can I tell which series of US Savings Bonds continue to draw interest after maturity?
I know some of the older series continue to accrue interest and some stop at their maturity value.
Which do and dont?
Answer: All US Savings Bonds end interest payments at maturity. The confusion lies in the fact that the govt has extended the maturity of several series for a period of 10, 20 or 30 years. E series bonds were not issued after 1980 but the maturity of earlier bonds was extended 3 times, and the longest-term will stop accruing interest in 2010.
Check with your bank if you think your bonds have matured. They have lists of current values of the different series and purchase dates.
